Commentary on Jesse Ventura’s 2012 Conspiracy Theory Episode

March 1st, 2010 by admin

Some of you may know that I do a live talk show every Wed night called the Frank and Chris show.

A  few weeks back Frank and I discussed the incredibly ridiculous 2012 episode of “Conspiracy Theory” with Jesse Ventura.

We played a few clips from the show and talked about how unbelievably bad it was, and hilarity ensued.

New Studies Showing The Solar Systems Location Reletive to the Galactic Plane

November 12th, 2009 by admin

Previously I have sited the journal Nature’s article to show that we are moving away from the galactic plane (3 million years ago) and aren’t due to return for 30 million years give or take. but that article was from 1985.

But thanks to the valiant efforts of these researchers many more studies have been uncovered showing virtually the same thing.

For instance:

Displacement of the Sun from the Galactic Plane Authors: Yogesh C. Joshi (Queen’s University Belfast 2007)

We have carried out a comparative statistical study for the displacement of the Sun from the Galactic plane (Z⊙) following three different methods… We found Z⊙ varies in a range of ~ 13 – 20 pc from the analysis is of YOCs…

or

The Sun’s Displacement from the Galactic Plane from Spectroscopic Parallaxes of 2500 OB Stars Reed, B. Cameron Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, Vol. 100, Issue #4, p.146 2006

The Sun’s vertical displacement from the galactic plane, Z_ȯ, is determined model-independently from 3526 spectroscopic parallax distance estimates for 2488 OB stars within 1200 pc of the Sun. The result, 19.6+/-2.1 pc, agrees well with various other recent determinations. The distribution of stellar z-values as a function of galactic longitude shows a very scattered sinusoidal dependence with an amplitude of about 27 pc.

The I-Ching and “Time Wave Zero”

September 15th, 2009 by admin

A less popular but equally convoluted source is the I-Ching. In the pre-800-number era of human existence, the people of China received their psychic advice from one of their oldest texts, the I-Ching. You asked the I-Ching a question and a certified physic flipped three coins in to the air, drawing a hexagram based on the results. This told your fortune, somehow.

The I-Ching had nothing to do with the end of the world until a man by the name of Terence McKenna came along and made a pattern out of every possible result. After applying this pattern to a line graph accompanied by a timeline of recorded history, he discovered that the high and low points of the graph coincided with several significant events.

On December 21, 2012, the line slowly dips off of the chart, once again supposedly indicating a world-ending catastrophic buttfuck.

What Predictions (Supposedly) Came True?

The Fall of the Roman Empire

The Discovery of the New World

World Wars I and II

Why it Might be Bullshit:

The reality is McKenna utilized a pattern of his own invention to create a timeline of his own invention, and then predicted world events that had already happened.

After all, there’s enough bad sh%$ in human history that you could probably correlate several large scale catastrophes right alongside the peaks and valleys of a line graph showing Disney’s stock price over the last decade.

He couldn’t even decide what the end of his timeline signified, claiming everything from the apocalypse to alien invasion to time travel. Honestly, what kind of half-assed prophet was this guy? Maybe the next Batman movie comes out in 2012 and it’s a huge disappointment, and the I-Ching just takes it way harder than everybody else.

The 2012 Galactic Alignment Hoax

June 9th, 2009 by admin

I have heard for many years that on December 21, 2012 the earth was going to align with the sun and the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. I used to point to this coming event as the reason there would be a pole shift as well as any number of cataclysms. I discovered recently while doing the research for the 2012 debunked video that this was very untrue.

To show you how scientifically impotent the galactic alignment theories are I will need to show you the difference between the twenty six thousand year precession cycle and the two hundred and fifty million year cycle of the solar system’s revolution around the galaxy. Most 2012 gurus will pick one or the other, or they mix up the two as they stumble through a pseudo scientific presentation that might sound fancy until you see the difference between the two.

First Precession:

precession2

This event is only significant from the earth’s point of view. The precession cycle or the 26,000 year wobble of the earth only causes the EFFECT of the stars changing position on the horizon. and therefore on the effect of galactic alignment. if you were viewing this “precession” from anywhere else in the solar system it would be totally insignificant, There is no gravitational force or radiation to be expected from this event because other than the tilt of the earth, nothing will be any different than the last few thousand solstices, and as such, the Earth will be no closer to the galactic center than any other solstice, in fact we will be much further away from galactic center than the Mayans were at that time.

The other camp of belief surrounding the 2012 alignment issue is probably the more significant of the two because it is dealing with the solar system’s actual location in relation to galactic center. The idea is that our little solar system is moving around the center of the galaxy every 225 to 250 million years or so, and while doing so it is moving up and down in a cycle crossing the plane every 33 million years.

So, the question is, are we going to cross that galactic plane in 2012?

Not even close. According to the journal nature, as well as many others, there is evidence of crossing this plane 3 million years ago. This would mean that we are moving away from the galactic plane and won’t be due to cross it for another 30 million years. In addition the margin of error in these calculations in at least 2.1 parsecs or about 6.5 light years making images like these completely meaningless.

To conclude:
If you hear someone tell you that the earth is on a 26,000 year cycle to align with the galaxy ask them how the wobble of the earth will change its position in relation to the galaxy.

Similarly, if you hear someone say that the earth is on a 250 million year cycle to align with the galaxy ask them if they know that this happened 3 million years ago and wont happen again for another 30 million.
